Abstinence Education Services
With all the movies, songs, and other forms of media today, you might think the majority of our youth are having sex. However, statistics show that the majority of youth are not (CDC Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 2003). That is why Focus on the Youth says that we like to encourage peer pressure in the area of sex. If we can educate and equip our youth to remain in (or return to) a sexually abstinent lifestyle, we are equipping them for a lifetime of success.
That is what Focus on the Youth (FOTY) does. FOTY has taught abstinence in both the secular and faith-based environments and our students have ranged from 4th through 12th graders. We have worked with organizations such as Cool Girls, Inc., Metro Atlanta Youth for Christ, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and various public schools. We are trained on the nationally recognized curricula “Choose the Best” and “W.A.I.T. Training”.
As with previous generations, our youth are looking for people who don't live by the motto "do as I say and not as I do" but rather "do as I do". As a woman who remained a virgin until marriage at the age of 35, Mrs. Owens, founder of Focus on the Youth, is able to use this fact to be even more effective in talking with the youth. Recognizing the specific needs and maturity levels of the youth, Focus on the Youth tailors its presentations to specific age groups. For example, for the younger age groups, the focus is more on setting goals, ‘beginning with the end in mind’, and self-worth. For the older age groups, the focus is on meaningful relationships, the physical, emotional, and financial risks of premarital sex, and refusal tactics. Resources such as PowerPoint, videos, and music are used, so that the presentations are visual, interactive, and fun.
To accommodate each organization’s needs, Focus on the Youth's services range from a 2-hour seminar to an 8-week class either faith-based or secular. Below you will find links to an overview of each of these options. Of course, we are also able to tailor our presentation to meet your specific needs.
